Hi, I’m Sofia!!

Hi everyone!! My name is Sofia and I am from Massapequa Park on Long Island. I am a freshmen and my major is Speech and Hearing Sciences. I am also a proud member of Cortland Kickline!! Since I was young, I have always loved to read and would challenge myself to read books above my level. I do not always like to admit it but, the Twilight series are my favorite books. Lastly, my favorite show of all time is One Tree Hill (a very close second is The Vampire Diaries), but I am also obsessed with all things reality tv (Real Housewives, The Bachelor, Big Brother, etc.).

Hi I’m Grace!

Hi I’m Grace. I’m a freshman from Goshen, NY which is about two and a half hours upstate from here. I am an Adolescent Education major with a concentration in English. I am on the track and cross country team here at Cortland which is so much fun, I love it! And lastly, my favorite show right now is Grey’s Anatomy, highly recommend!

I’m Kristen!

Hi, everyone! My name is Kristen and I’m a senior here at Cortland. I’m from Westchester County, NY, which is just north of NYC for those who don’t know, and I’m an English Education major. This past fall I student taught 7th and 11th graders, and I’m excited to be back in the classroom on the student side of things. I read books a lot less than I would like to admit, but I do enjoy pretty much all things English. For anyone who might be looking for a new show to watch, I’ve been watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Prime Video) and I very much recommend it 🙂

My name is Colleen

Hi, as you can obviously tell from the title my name is Colleen. I’m from Rochester, NY. I’m a freshman and my major is Adolescence Education-English. Reading is probably one of my favorite things to do besides binge watching Netflix, so I am pretty excited to be exposed to new texts. I tend to watch and read things that are more dramatic, so if you have any suggestions please let me know!

Welcome

Welcome to “ENG252 – Intro to Multicultural Literature”! I’m Professor Savonick and this is my first year teaching at SUNY Cortland. Previously, I taught for five years at Queens College. I can’t wait for our semester together!

Prior to our first course session, there are a few things that you can do to ensure a smooth start to the semester.

  1. Read through the syllabus. I will make small adjustments throughout the semester, but this should give you a general idea of what will be covered in our course. We will go over the syllabus on the first day of class, so please come prepared with questions.
  2. Register to use this course site. Before you are able to access readings, blog, and comment on our course site, you will need to register. For this course, you will be writing blogs that are publicly available. For that reason, I encourage you to sign up for an account with a username that will not disclose your identity. Your username and name should include your first name and last initial and I recommend you set “Who is allowed to see this field?” to “All Members” so that only our class can identify you. Remember to save your username and password! Once you register, you should receive a confirmation email. I will then activate your account and you will be all set to read and write.
  3. You might find it useful to bookmark this site.
